Tourist Attraction in Bangalore (Parks)

Cubbon Park

 

This beautiful garden was created by British Chief Engineer of Mysore, Major General Richard Sankey in 1884. It is situated within the heart of the city in the Central Administrative Area. The park has been named after Sir Mark Cubbon, the city’s longest serving commissioner.
This park is rich in flora and fauna. Green grassy expanses including flowerbeds add sheer beauty to this 300 acres park. The natural environment of the park is frequented by morning walkers and the botany experts also.
One can see the British influence in this park. Some monuments including elegant ‘greco-colonial’ style buildings are also present here.  One of the oldest museums of India is situated in this park, housing the ancient specimens of Vijaynagar, Mahenjodaro architecture, stone inscriptions and coins.

Jawahar Bal Bhavan  

Jawahar Bal Bhavan is situated in the premises of Cubbon park. It’s an attraction for the city children. Helium-filled balloons keep children’s spirits flying high. Jawahar Bal Bhavan serves as a picnic spot because of its toy train and boat rides. It also has a movie-screening facility with 100 accommodations. Nature camps are also organized here. The Cubbon park is situated near the Chinnaswamy Cricket stadium

Lalbagh

 

This richly diverse botanical garden is spreading over 240 acres in the southern part of the city. It was laid out by Haider Ali in 1740. He and his son Tipu Sultan imported a great variety of tropical and sub tropical plants, trees and herbs from across the seas. You can find a 17th century intricate water system in the garden which was used to irrigate the plants. A magnificent Glass house is also here which serves the venue for horticultural shows. This house is modeled on London's Crystal Palace. John Cameron, the Garden's Superintendent in the 1870s initiated the work of this famous house. This garden’s natural beauty has been much appreciated by tourists

Kariappa Memorial Park

 

This park was laid out in 1996 occupying a portion of the parade ground between M. G. Road and Cubbon park. This was made in memory of Field Marshall K.M. Kariappa. This park is maintained by the various divisions of Indian Army. This 22 acre park has a 7 feet high monolithic monument of Kariappa at its entrance. With a great variety of floral specimen this park has a very natural environment. It has a play ground for children which includes a burma bridge, tarzan swings, zigzag tunnels, spider webs, sand pits and balance bars. In order to improve the physical capability and mental intensity of the children very strict military rules are followed here.

The park remains open for public from 05:30pm to 08:00am on weekdays and from 01:00pm to 07:00pm on Saturday and from 09:00am to 07:00pm on Sunday

Banergatta National Park  

The 25,000 acre spreading Banergatta National Park is located 22 km south of Bangalore on the Anekal Road. The southern outskirts of the city is a haven for wild life and for nature lovers. This huge park houses lions, panthers, tigers, and a large variety of birds. This park also includes a Zoological garden and a snake park. KSTDC organizes a safari, through the dry deciduous forest and thorny scrub to give you a real feel of adventure. You can see the ‘kings of jungle’ in your own eyes at a very close distance in the open arena
